FHMer David Cotsios enjoyed a hands-on preview of two of 2010’s most anticipated games releases: Heavy Rain and God Of War III. Here’s what he thought…
God of War III
Pickle my sh*t; this is what I’m talking about. Kratos is a big angry Spartan warrior who has declared war on the pantheon of Greek gods on Mount Olympus.
The gods don’t like this much and have unleashed the minions of hell to stop you. Not to mention centaurs, harpies, cyclopes and a bunch of other mythical nasties.
Good job that Kratos has brought along his double-chained axes then, which he whips around with gleeful abandon. The lighting in this game is just something else, and the scenery mind-blowing; one level is fought on the friggin’ back of a colossal Titan.
The finishing moves are killer (so to speak), and you really haven’t lived ’til you’ve ridden an enraged 20-foot cyclops around by twisting his chubby eyebrow. When you’re bored with that, merely climb on his face and rip his eye out in a geyser of gore and viscera.
Many classical scholars argue whether Helios himself was depicted as the sun in the ancient world, or as a personified deity piloting a flaming chariot which represented the sun. All I know is that Kratos is sitting on his back, slowly and cruelly ripping his gleaming head from his divine shoulders.
Fun and educational.
