Ah, the modern wonders of instant communication technologies. In the time it takes you to read this article, Ashton Kutcher will have probably tweeted 31 times, Lily Allen may have pissed off another industry bigwig and a Hollywood starlet will have had her rise and fall in the spotlight.
The latest social networking phenomenon, Twitter, is taking over the world (and yes, we've joined the bandwagon) giving people a real-time peek into the lives of, well, anyone, including celebs, who like to twitter. However, the micro-blogging craze seems to have sparked its first libel action against Hole frontwoman, Courtney Love.
The UK's Independent reports fashion designer Dawn Simorangkir is suing the 'Celebrity Skin' singer for what court papers describe as "nothing short of an obsessive and delusional crusade to destroy Ms Simorangkir's reputation and her livelihood".
Bonus: Celebrity TwitterersLaunch GalleryIn angry tweets, Love describes her former designer, Simorangkir, as a "nasty, lying, hosebag thief" with "a history of dealing cocaine"; having "lost all custody of her child"; and, being guilty of "assault and burglary".
"Stay away; well, well away [from Simorangkir]," Love is alleged to have posted on March 18, 2009. "[Handmade fashion and craft website] Etsy can't wait to see the back of her, so goodbye asswipe, nasty lying hosebag thief."
Love is also alleged to have tweeted: "WWD, someone who will
never grace your pages [is] the felonious Dawn/Boudoir Queen, [who was] witnessed stealing two
massive army bags out of the chat at 4am."
Note to self: do not piss off Courtney Love!
Should Courtney be allowed to vent her feelings on Twitter? How would you feel if someone trashed your name on the Internet? If this case sets a precedent would you be more careful of what you say on Twitter? Are you on Twitter? Add us:
