The Nokia N97 is the new kid on the phone-gizmo block. Said to combine the best features from Apple's iPhone and the BlackBerry, Nokia is counting on the N97 to bring back its waning sex appeal.
Users can make the N97 their own personal space, with social networks, updated widgets and favourite sites available at the touch of the screen. Approved friends can view each others' "social location" on social networks – taking Face-stalking to a whole new level!
The N97 boasts 48GB of memory, an 8.9cm touch screen, a five-megapixel camera and a Qwerty keypad, which slides out from under the screen for users to type e-mails, just as they would on a BlackBerry or HTC smartphone.
All this begs the question: If it's so new and fandangled, why does it only have a five-megapixel camera? Nokia has been bringing out camera phones for years, some with eight megapixels. So why the backward step? If you're going to carry around a world of technology in your pocket, shouldn't it be able to take better pics?
Lets just hope that it develops a better nickname; with a name like the N97 it's sure to be the nerd of the schoolyard.
A release date for the N97 has yet to be announced for the Australian market, but Nokia says it expects to start shipping the handset in the first half of 2009.
