Motorists v cyclists: it’s war!

Cyclists: planet-loving health nuts embracing a Utopian vision of a pedal-powered world, or lycra-clad cultists intent on taking over our roads and obstructing the entrance to our favourite cafes every Saturday morning?

Whether you’re a bike-booster or you tut-tut the two-wheeled terrors, they’re certainly getting their fair share of publicity lately, what with the public flagellation of Magda Szubanski for her “tasteless” gag and today’s national Ride to Work Day. 

Let us know what you think about cyclists. Marvellous or menace?

  OMG cyclists really need to get the hell off the road!! I mean if u want to be run down, ok go for it..... i think they should ride on open roads with designated bike lanes.... not in between peak hour traffic, and leeching behind buses. They are not city material... get on a bus or get in a car!!! Exercise in pollution... yeah that's really healthy...!

  Cyclists are a menace on the road! They sit in groups, 2-3 wide and block traffic in 100 km/hr zones. I cannot count the numerous times i have almost killed 2-3 by driving within the limits and safely but they sit 2-3 wide and will not budge, whether oncoming traffic or hills or bends. They should be banned outside 60km/h zones permanently. They block half of the lane off, and when a large group are together, you cannot get past for km's sometimes. BAN THEM! IT IS UNSAFE for both them and the motorist.

  why do motorists have ownership over the road. i pay rego. never drive my car though. yes fair enough sometimes we do the wrong thing but if we all watch out for each other everyone can be happy. sorry if that means you have to slow down for 30 seconds to wait for a safe place to pass but that won't kill you. last year i rode in france and the drivers there were fantastic and everyone is happy....the riders respect the cars and vice versa... less cyclists means more cars on the road, more pollution.

  Cyclist have to pay insurance too!!!! We have to pay to enter races, and the organisers of the races have to pay the government to ride on the roads MONTHLY! Besides if u knew ur **** u would know that bike lanes are paid by cyclist with their insurance they have to pay, it is not done with tax payers money so get ur facts straight!!!!!!

  Understandable that the bike lanes are paid for by cyclists but why don't the cyclists ever use them? I have seen so many cyclists riding on the road when there is a perfectly good bike path next to them or when there is a service lane next to them. Wouldn't it be safer to ride out of the way of cars if you have the option?
