Thursday, November 12, 2009 - The Bicycle Film festival arrived in Sydney yesterday, after a lively warm-up party last week at 7-Metre bar, featuring BMXers doing tricks on a taco ramp and some serious merch from major sponsors Onitsuka Tiger.
Last night’s opening Bikes Rock gig featured Lions at your Door, Deep Sea Arcade, Johnathan Boulet and local legends Bridezilla.
The festival is in town until Sunday – tonight there will be an arts show at Monster Children in Darlinghurst and a photographic exhibition at The Rat’s Nest Gallery in East Sydney. Saturday there’ll be a street party at St Mary’s Cathedral Square in the city, which will feature more BMX tricks, food, merch stalls, and, of course, lots of bikes. Things will wind down with a Bikes ‘n’ Babes BBQ (which is exactly as it sounds) in Alexandria Park on Sunday from 12pm. And of course there are the films, which will be screening Friday through Sunday at the Chauvel in Paddington.
Riding your bike to the events is both fashionable and encouraged – there is even a bike valet service at all events to make sure your wheels are safe and sound.
Verdict: Bikes rock. For more info visit
