The former ironman champ on how to look fit for the beach
Half an hour a day…
That’s all Guy Leech reckons you have to exercise to see a noticeable change in your health. And you don’t need a fancy home gym or a club membership, you don;’t even need to eat that well. as the former ironman champion explain, it’s all about keeping things in moderation.
Stay regular
“I’ve been retired since 1995, and I’d like to think that I’m a good example of the fact that if you eat well – but not all the time – you exercise regularly, without having to do stupid, and you do it consistently, you can keep your body like it was when you were 21 years of age,” says Guy, who still clearly doesn’t mind gadding about the beach in his budgie smugglers.
“If you do half an hour of exercise a day, most days of the week, you’ll get a significant change. You have to eat healthy, but when I say that, I was just about to have a rock cake and a coffee after going for a surf – and I’ll be having steak and chips tonight.”
Beach boys
Sounds okay to us, but it helps when you’re hitting the beach five days a week to run "aquatic boot camps" for lazy city types like… us. Guy was kind enough to take us down to Manly for a run through his daily fitness routine, and it’s surprisingly simple – all you need is some open space, like a beach… And maybe a kayak.
